Cedar Rapids Quiet Flyers
AMA Chartered Club # 3710
Updated 3/31/2008

The Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Quiet Flyers is an AMA chartered multi interest club. All flyers must have valid AMA membership. As indicated by the name of the club gas and glow engines are not permitted. We fly R/C electric, sailplanes and rubber powered free flight. In the next couple of weeks, the sod will be dry enough at our new field and we'll announce the start of the season. New membership is closed as we evaluate our new field these first couple months. However, many of our members fly at local parks and would enjoy a call from a new flyer to talk and fly or train. Call us!

If you have an interest in joining us contact:

Please enjoy these photos of us having fun at the sod farm field this past year. ( 2007 )

A group picture of some of the guys. November 3, 2007

Plenny Bates and Jim Stickley laying planes out and getting ready for a morning of flying.

Chad Rosenbohm with his cub.

An aerial view taken from my Seniorita equiped with a 5mp camera. Perhaps 100 ft up, looking north west at the guys. Kerry.

Someone wearing a pager, does a nice fly-by.

Plenny Bates with Grifter 114" sailplane a discontinued model from Art Hobby http://www.arthobby.com. Flaps and ballast tubes were added. Slopes well at 80 oz and should go better ballasted to 110 oz.

Picture of Mark Niday holding a transmitter and staring up: A UFO?  Do the clouds look like bunnies?  No, Mark is dreaming that he can fly!

This is my Parkzone, F-117 Stryker.  200+ watts and has been radar clocked at 92 mph.  I enjoy flying with this group of guys because of the good times we have and it's a peaceful site to fly at.  Kerry

This is my first RC plane ever.  The Multiplex Easy Star is a great trainer and I have learned a lot with it.  I have all but destroyed this plane several times.  She glues back together and still flies nice.  www.myspace.com/hellhound06d

Todd Young and one of his nice sail planes.

You guys call this is a flight line????
(from left to right..) Walt, Jim, Rick and Mark. Oh the stress of R.C. flying

Matt Vesey and his home made F-15.

Walt and Jim fueling up for another flight.

Harold Clark launches his plane.

Harold Clark and one of his home built planes. This is a biplane made from blue foam and it flys just great. Harold always has something up his sleeve.

Tom Smith working hard at the trans mitter! Notice the effertless, one-fingered style!

An aerial view taken from my Seniorita equiped with a 5mp camera. Perhaps 500 ft up, looking north. Kerry L.

Being able to talk with the veterans of this hobby has been instrumental to my success.  I am very grateful to the friends that have helped me.  Here Don has been letting me pick his brain.

Joe Bridge and one of his fast sail planes. Goes like stink!

Walt Taylorand his multiplex twinstar. Flys nice.

Picture of Don and I making jokes about Kerry. Don is very knowledgeable, but is also a real character.  At least half the time at the field is spent talking.  Mark Niday

Ashot of the boys on a nice summer evening.

Richard Knight and a nice old timer.

This is an SDM Piper Cub and the famous Wild Hawk.  The Wild Hawk is incredibly crash resistant, very fun and floaty and can roll on a good day.  Mark Niday

Randy Cady stopped by to check us out.

A typical flight line on warm summer evening.

Joe Bridge and another one of his fast sail planes.

|Will and his dad. Will is good pilot and promises to be a great one soon!

Walt and his 'cyberhawk' ornithopter that his friend Kerry helped capture on E-Bay. What a blast to see fly!

Jim Stickley sits with his Espire sailplane while waiting for some lift.

Having the freedom to experiment is great.  Here is my Wing-dragon with some light pods attached.  It lets us fly into the twilight hours.

Plenny Bates with Miss America built by Bob Livin. Designed by the late Frank Zaic in 1936 for Brown Jr. It now has an Astro 40. Cover is polycarbonate coated ripstop polyester fabric from http://ecom.citystar.com/hang-em-high/

Don HArker and his scratch built N9M.

Mike Han with a nice home built. Very lite and gental.

Matt Vesey and one of his home builts.

Here is my Wing-dragon.  After a few wing strengthening mods it is a great plane to loop and even fly inverted.  Believe it or not this plane was given to me (yes, GIVEN) by my good friend and sponsor, Kerry.  Harold was the original owner.  Thank you Harold also.  It is a great plane to fly.

Here is my homemade foamie. 6 mm depron, 400xt brushless motor. Flys great! Kerry L.

Tom Smith with his Multiplex Easy Glider.
